Matt Smethurst

Matt Smethurst was raised by parents who showed him what it looks like to follow Jesus; through their faithful influence, God saved Matt at a young age. In college at James Madison University, he captured Matt’s heart in a deeper way and gave him a heart for ministry. This passion was further crystallized while serving as a missionary in East Asia.

Matt’s greatest earthly asset, though, is not any theological degree or ministry accomplishment; it is his wife, Maghan. The two Virginians (Matt is from Charlottesville; Maghan is from near Manassas) met at JMU and started dating while serving as missionaries. They have been married for 15 years and have five young children. Life in “the little years” is remarkably full, but the Smethursts are richly blessed. Matt is honored to serve River City Baptist Church in Richmond, VA as its lead pastor.

Paul Billings

Paul attended Elon University in North Carolina for college, where his life was significantly impacted through the ministry of Campus Outreach. It was through life-on-life discipleship and the experience of ministering to fraternity brothers in college that the Lord deepened his burden for building laborers on the campus.

After graduating, he had the chance to join the CODC team as they launched the ministry at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. A year later he married Steph, who had been serving on staff with Campus Outreach in Charlotte. They have four little girls, Emma, Ainsley, Ava and June. In addition to leading the CODC team, Paul holds his Masters of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and has served as an elder at Capitol Hill Baptist Church.
